NSBAi Task Force Working Framework
NSBA's AI Task Force is working with industry leaders to produce and ratify a comprehensive framework for Small-Business protections for its inevitable involvement in the rapid scaling of AI-related functionality and infrastructure.
NSBAi Task Force Working Resolution
NSBA's AI Task Force is working with Congress on a Resolution affirming federal commitments to Small-Business protections for its inextricably linked participation in the large-scale increase of AI-related functionality and infrastructure.

IN FEBRUARY 2025, NSBAi TASK FORCE SENT A LETTER TO CAPITOL HILL.

WE MADE THE FOLLOWING PRELIMINARY RECOMMENDATIONS:

Ensure key agencies tasked with regulating AI, such as the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), have funding specifically appropriated for resources focused on small-business AI deployment.

Consider business size in crafting requirements for AI developers so that small-business AI innovation is not hindered by potentially burdensome regulations.

Reflected in the Small Business Technological Advancement Act (S. 2330/H.R. 10269 in the 118th Congress)  as well as in the Bipartisan Senate AI Work Group recommendations, Congress should clarify AI-related expenses are SBA 7(a) loan program-eligible.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) should be a central in disseminating these resources. Focus on small business and its place in the AI landscape is reflected in the Small Business Artificial Intelligence Training and Toolkit Act of 2024 (S. 4487, 118th Congress).

What
Now?

In Nov. 2025, the NSBAi Task Force released a working set of policy recommendations aimed at ensuring small businesses are not left behind or inadvertently harmed as Congress continues shaping the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) regulatory framework. The document, drafted by NSBA’s AI Task Force, outlines practical steps lawmakers can take to support innovation while safeguarding entrepreneurs navigating rapid technological change.

Worker On Scaffolding
"At Wilco Engineering, our work happens in the real world. On job sites, across the country, in the dirt, solving problems that require human skill and collaboration. AI doesn’t threaten that.  It enhances it. From modeling to diagnostics, AI gives us better tools and clearer insights, but the craftsmanship and decision-making still come from people. I truly believe small businesses have a bright future in this new era, because AI is helping firms like mine do what we do best, only better."

William Bethea, Owner | Wilco Engineering

This is exactly why NSBA’s AI Task Force exists: to make sure small-business owners, like William, are able to continue leading the nation's most important economic community in this new era of technology. We’re fighting for clear, size-appropriate AI rules, better access to capital, and real protections for small firms as AI scales nationwide. We encourage members to join this effort and welcome sponsors who want to help ensure America’s small businesses have the tools, safeguards, and opportunities they need to thrive in the AI age.
