Advocacy leans on NSBA recs in key comments. On June 23, the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Advocacy (Advocacy) announced its submission of comments on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) request for information (RFI) on identifying anti-competitive laws and regulations for repeal and reform.


Three NSBA recommendations for FTC consideration were incorporated into Advocacy’s comments, addressing the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and the FTC’s Noncompete Rule. SBA to hold quarterly Veterans Small Business Development meeting. On July 7, SBA announced that the quarterly Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development meeting will occur on July 15 from 1-3 p.m. ET. The agency is encouraging the public to attend the meeting, including virtually, to hear updates on policies impacting veteran-owned businesses.

SBA highlights small business wins in OBBB. On July 5, SBA released a statement from Administrator Kelly Loeffler and highlighted the One Big Beautiful Bill’s inclusion of provisions “that will directly empower small businesses and workers,” including 2017 Trump Tax Cuts permanency, preservation of the 199A 20% small business deduction, and authorization of 100 percent expensing for new factories, factory improvements, equipment, and research and development.

SBA announces audit of 8(a) program. On June 27, SBA announced that Administrator Loeffler has directed “an immediate and full-scale audit” of the agency’s 8(a) Business Development Program. NSBA is monitoring these developments and will keep our members apprised of pertinent updates.

DOL announces initial deregulatory efforts. On July 1, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced a plan including 63 deregulatory actions “aimed at reversing the costly and burdensome rules imposed under previous administrations.” More information is available here.
